Show Favorites on Start Menu

Here's what you get:

This is a simple trick that even some people never notice. There were couple times when I turned on my computer and I wanted to go directly to one of my favorites with a fastest way. Well.. the common way is to open your web browser, wait until it's done all the loading, then select the top menu to pick your favorite... This small trick shows you how to create the "Favorites" shortcut on the start menu so that you can pick your favorites right on the Start Menu.

The steps below based on Windows XP, you can find a similar way on other versions of Windows.

  1. Right-click on the "Start" button and select "Properties".
  2. Click the "Start Menu" tab.
  3. Click the "Customize" button but also notice which type of start menu you currently have: "Start Menu" or "Classic Start Menu"


If you have your Start Menu setup as "Classic Start Menu"
  1. Under "Advanced Start menu options", make sure "Display Favorites" is selected. If it's not, click to check it.
  2. Click OK twice to exit. the Favorites shorcut should show up on the Start Menu.


If you have your Start Menu setup as "Start Menu"
  1. Click the "Advanced" tab
  2. Under "Start menu items", make sure "Favorites menu" is selected. If it's not, click to check it.
  3. Click OK twice to exit. the Favorites shorcut should show up on the Start Menu.
